The Partnership for Global Justice Annual Meeting is at St. Paul’s Church, New York City, Sunday, May 1, 2011 Climate Change and Building a Sustainable Future. We will present our Justice Award to Rev. Sean McDonagh, SSC, a Columban priest of Ireland, who after years working with the tribal people in the Philippines as their forest habitat was destroyed by logging, has given his most recent years of his priesthood to working for global environmental change. He is a lecturer and prolific writer and a leading thinker in the field of Eco-Theology. His recent books include: The Death of Life: The Horror of Extinction (2005) and Climate Change: The Challenge to All of Us (2007).
The program from 1 PM to 6 PM will include a luncheon, the award presentation, keynote by Father McDonagh and incorporate an orientation to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development which will be held May 2 -14. The theme of the Commission is Transport; Chemicals; Mining; the 10-Year Framework of Programs on Sustainable Consumption & Production Patterns.
We encourage our participants to participate in the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development which will take place at UN Headquarters in New York from May 2-14. It is not necessary to stay for the entire conference, even participating for a few days will offer energy and insight into the world efforts on Climate Change. There is no charge to participate in the UN Conference, but housing and transportation are the responsibility of each person.
