Partnership for Global Justice PROGRAM:
Creating a Culture of Peace
The skills and principles of violence are embedded in much of American culture, in language, television, movies, contemporary music, etc. To become peaceful people, we need understanding and skills of active nonviolence to respond out of our Gospel beliefs and values. Creating a Culture of Peace is an experiential program that involves participants in active exercises, reflection, discussion, and planning to explore the nature and roots of violence in our culture as well as to develop strategies for engaging in active nonviolence. The program provides an understanding of the dynamics of both violence and active nonviolence, knowledge of alternatives to violence, and practice in applying this understanding and knowledge in practical situations. Creating a Culture of Peace was designed by Janet Chisholm, based on Pace e Bene’s From Violence to Wholeness . Janet coordinates the program from Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center, Bangor, Pennsylvania, where she is Coordinator for Peace and Justice. For whom is the program designed?
